These yearly memberships do have an expiry, of which is clearly noted in the first post of the relevant thread. There should be no confusion if actually read BEFORE committing your payment.
These memberships go towards the cost of running the site. Figure that with the size of the forum, the server needed to carry it, and the backup of such. It isn't an insignificant amount...
We all benefit from this, and appreciate it immensely. This forum is essentially carried by it's members.
Unfortunately this member, now removed, just doesn't get it. A shame really. But calling it a money making scheme, and the owner rude, is entirely false.

Exactly that Rob and sometimes its a thankless job, hopefully we mods have passed a bit of knowledge over the past 15 odd years but thats what I joined for.
