I would guess that they are trying to differentiate the more expensive watches having hacking opposed to the less expensive with the same movement.
It wuold be interesting to test a new higher end Panerai with the 9010 and see if it hacks.
I have a 2020 692 and it hacks, but it is unclear when this change was made.
