That seems logical and intuitive, and typically I'd guess that's correct. Except... The lack of a date. While I prefer hacking+date over any other combo, for a non-hacking piece I think dateless is probably preferable in terms of convenience, especially if it isn't a daily wearer.
As far as the logic behind the whole switch, I do have one guess: power reserve. The 324 lists minimum of 45 hours, the 330 only 35. As PR grow across the board (I think Rolex is now up to 70!!) there's a need to compete there, too.
So, when all was said and done, the 324 w/o date makes sense, I think.
