I have a 1996 and there's no coffee yet. Depending on the watch it can take quite a long time for the color shift to occur.

If you put the watch under a halogen for a minute, take it into a sealed off room like a bathroom with no window, and close the door.... Glowing bright = luminova. Glowing not at all = Tritium. Your eyes would be too blown away by the halogen light to see any glow from the remaining T.

This is how I tested mine. Seems the bezel was replaced at some point as the pearl glows for a little bit after being exposed to light!
