Consider Panerai because you like the watch.
I’d hope that this recent secondary market action would have reminded everyone that if you’re buying watches because of their resale value, then you’re not a collector or enthusiast, you’re a speculator. Not that I have a problem with speculators.
I don’t think anyone will advise you to buy a Panerai because it will be worth more one day, or that it will hold its value better than some other brand. Buy a Panerai because they make very distinctive and functional timepieces.
