When you stop the watch movement (hack), then everything stays in tension. While modern metals do not take a set while held under tension for extended periods as readily as earlier metal compositions did, they are still expected to be moving.
I don't see why you are opposed to winding it if you are willing to set the time, it only takes a few more seconds.
Personally, I would let it run down.
