They are a huge hindrance, for a number of reasons.

First, when you're looking for a nice watch to buy, the last thing you want your purchase to be associated with is a character like this. The drama is as absurd as it is cringe, and just when you think it cannot get any worse, it gets way, way worse.

Second, the common complaint about highly desirable watches, especially Rolexes, is that you cannot get them at MSRP at dealers due to scalpers. (I don't find this argument valid because it is economically illiterate.)

HOWEVER - If the watch flipper is, in reality, operating a Ponzi scheme, which is what is being alleged by so many of his hatewatchers, that puts artificial upward pressure on demand which is the primary driver of the secondary market. High price on secondary market will dry up the AD market and all of a sudden people have bad thoughts about Rolex proper.

This character is a huge liability on the watch market, and watch collecting as a thing to do - regardless of the veracity of the informal online claims.
