Most safe deposit boxes aren’t that well protected and contents are not insured by the bank. It’s storage. If contents are missing it’s on you.
A good home safe (as you describe), a good security system, insurance, and notify the police for courtesy patrols when you’re on extended absences will cover your assets as well as the bank box.
