I've always wondered if in some countries the delta between "appraised value" and what it actually goes for can be considered a tax deduction to a charity?
For example, if a piece is estimated to go for $50k by the charity and sells for $150k instead, can some people claim a $100,000 donation?
In the US, there's something similar with art where if you buy it and have it appraised at a higher value, you pocket the difference in imaginary donated $, it's pretty cool.
If so, it changes the math a lot for some bidders.
