My suggestion:
1. You should probably buy the ring first - if you intend to marry her
2. If you don't plan to marry her - why does her opinion even matter
If you choose #2 - to save some extra unnecessary argument, buy the watch first before telling her or at least tell her that you paid and can't get the refund so there's no point of arguing.
