Hello Sam!
I have been reading this thread with much interest.
You got a very beautiful watch, with a strong sentimental story behind.
You have it very nicely restored to its original splendor, and at a very reasonable cost I feel.
I wish you will be enjoying it so much now! Of course I well understand your feelings about the possibility of scratching its shiny look now, but worst of all of someone stealing it.
I can well understand, as I am a vintage user, and here the security issue is very bad now. Anyway, I try to enjoy my old (and new) watches wearing them in special occassions, or when I know I´m staying in more secure places.

I feel you should wear your watch and enjoy it so much, reminding you your grand father everytime you take a glance to it (very often I imagine!) and then pass to your son, as a beloved heirloom to keep in your family.
Those pictures of your Grandpa, and other documentation, is a nice backing to hold near a case where you can guard your beautiful watch.

Hope you wear it in good health, and thank you so much for sharing this story with us!
Best cordial regards, Abel.
