I looked at these areas with a loupe, cleaned up, and concluded they were not numbers but pits in the SS. The gold looks solid.

I had the back rubber gasket replaced on the watch during the weekend by a watch expert. The movement is a 1570 caliber, consistent with the '79 time period.

He recognized the band. They are now rare and coveted by some collectors.
