It seems to be some kind of memory management issue.
I don't know what you can do it really is an Apple problem. Apparently it happens more frequently with the iPad1 than the iPad2, but it shouldn't happen at all really.
It never happened with previous iOS so it must be a bug Apple will in time release an update to remedy.
