Don't sweat it, man - I was also furious when I first found out about it. It's wrong on so many levels, from complete disrespect of customers' computers right up to treating customers like criminals without the benefit of a trial. Given that "root" has some rather rude implications in Australian vernacular, "rootkit" is quite appropriate indeed for this latest nonsense.
Sony deserves to go down in flames for this one - they've obviously gotten too big for their boots.
