Some original pearls will be lucky to survive removal process (high chance to crack due to age) and can be left in to tolerate heat needed to change bezel color.One just needs to reapply cement to back of pearl when out of oven.
I tried the method myself once with success. But after I artificially altered the color of bezel, it was not easy for me to pass on as anything but, and I ended up giving the insert away to my friend. I have no clue what he did with it, but I hope its not out in the world being passed off as natural age fade.
