sounds like you could handle a 44 no problem. i would look to the 233 or a bettarini case luminor (000, 111, 510, etc), or, if 42, look at the 512 or 337 (if 312 is too big, then the 392 may feel too big, too, since it sits high on the wrist).
best bet is to try a bunch on, though.
