Hi Fabio! There are many opinions out there on this dial. One of the most prominent scholars is Pucci Papaleo, who wrote the book "Ultimate Rolex Daytona."
I attach here an excerpt from his book. We believe 16 are in existence and that the dial was manufactured by Singer Co.
What is not known is why they were produced. Some believe as a prototype to show Rolex a potential new variant. Others say they were commissioned by Ferrari for their racing team at the time.
Unfortunately, we'll probably never know 100% for sure.
