Well maybe because he looks like a Rolex ad in the first picture. Having one on and posing with one is a bit different.
I suspect he had it changed because he looked like an idiot, not because anyone thought a guy making millions running a company worth billions sends the wrong message wearing a stainless steel watch.
Of course, maybe the "fashion police" got to him and they expect something less "Lloyd Bridges" for a business suit.
