I always just figured if you don't want the actual COLOR of gold on your wrist, I see no good reason to buy white gold (or platinum) over stainless. The color is so similar, but the cost is soooooo much higher. Other than the personal satisfaction of wearing gold I see no actual practical benefits of wearing WG over SS.
Now if you want to wear yellow or rose gold on your wrist, then I get it for sure.
