Thanks for the replies. Pretty sure he doesn't want to repair as he is rough on watches and if he puts a bunch of money in it he will not wear it anyhow. I think that's why he is leaning toward getting a modern Sub or SD. I think the DeepSea would make a good match as he is a big guy :-)
