I agree with both perspectives here. It’s cool to have the period engraving. It pulls you into the moment when this was a bad ass tool on the wrist of a bad ass soldier that terrible war.
At the same time, a a time piece, I think it’s trashed. It’s an interesting memento, but I’d think more valuables a military collector than a watch enthusiast.
What I can’t understand is why he would carve it in on both SIDES of the case. Okay, maybe the case back if you are worried about needing to ID it, but the sides also? I can’t see a rational reason for that...
