Glad you shared your experience. This is very helpful for others to know about. Sorry that you had to be the one to pay such a price for the lesson.

I recently found an old combo luggage lock that I've never made use of. I thought about using it on my next trip, for when I leave my suitcase (of mostly clothing and toiletries) with hotel clerks or in the room alone. Now I'm thinking that the lack of a lock may be better since it will avoid drawing attention. I never keep anything of significant value in a bag that's not on my person, so guarding some small souvenirs and such with a lock may be inviting more trouble than actual protection it offers.

Congrats on your marriage; that's pretty awful that the theft happened when it did. I hope you can make the best of things!
