But to the OP’s question, a dress watch isn’t defined by metal choice. Rather, it is defined by other physical attributes - dimensions, design and understated presence.
IMHO, a demur Gucci quartz plated tank on a strap can be more “dress” than any automatic that dwarfs it in price, metal and size.
