It is very common for chemical exposure to cause a surface reaction with the 25% of the alloy that is not Au. Admittedly 30 mins exposure to cause a reaction seems fast. As op has stated I am not surprised to hear that the chemical concentration is extremely high. Standard concentrations used in pools should not cause this type of reaction in such a short timeframe.

In theory you could bring a claim against the property owner/management/pool maintenance co as this could be argued to amount to loss suffered through negligence.

From the point of view of RSC it’s not a warranty issue but that is not to say they won’t do the work as goodwill (after all the wheel that squeaks loudest gets the oil). Options are to replace the tarnished components which is unlikely going to be done for free, or a light polish to remove the tarnish. The latter is the most likely outcome.

Sorry to see and hear this happened. Seriously consider this as a claim though, as it shouldn’t have happened to you.
