Hi Yiannis!!
It looked like gold to me.
Anyway, a gorgeous watch indeed! See this way: if yours is also steel, it could easily be a "cousin" of mine! Very nice!

By the way, the steel band of mine, is of the riveted Oyster type in use in those years. But, I feel this is not the original one, as the covered ends between the lugs appeared in the early fifties. The original Oyster steel band used in the 1940´s didn´t have those close ends.
Some previous owner has changed it, or may be my watch originally came with a leather band like yours and later its owner upgraded with an steel one for it.
I feel that the riveted Oyster bands used by Rolex in the past were really gorgeous, and have a vintage look that I really love.
I got a gold Date Rolex bought brand new in 1982, with this type of band. Lovely!
Enjoy your watch!

To Alcan:
I have just taken a picture of my watch some minutes ago. It´s 9:10 PM here in Argentina now! It is shown with my beloved Explorer, just to show its relative size, and also... because it is a Rolex Forum!!
Best cordial regards, Abel
