Not exactly. "Racing" seats in a Ferrari still have 10x more padding than a true Recaro/Sparco type bucket seat in a race car. Not a great analogy, really.
Removing the DE in a modern SD can absolutely improve how well it fits one's wrist, especially if the DE protrudes from the clasp. It's all dependent on fit.
