Well Rolex first brought it the Datejust in 36 mm size in 1946. Subsequently they brought out the Date in 34 mm size. Now those two sizes accounted for considerable earnings for Rolex over the next decades. Men did not concern themselves with their wrist size, unless being measured for a shirt. Hyping a product was, pretty much, confined to Madison Avenue. IMHO, 34, 36, 41, eh who cares.
