I get the allure of Rolex but Rolex isn’t the same today as it was even 2-3 years back. I would buy the Omega anyway as the Rolex buyer has taken on a new face far from the enthusiast. As much as I like my Rolex watches, I am starting to detest what Rolex is doing and what they have migrated to. After 30 years of ownership, the brand feels stale and rubbing me the wrong way. Rolex’s priorities are not mine.
The Sub has a outdated movement and way way way over rated in the current market. For some reason we all thought the Sub would get a updated movement like the GMT the last 3 years but nothing yet. A 48hr power reserve and no rotor bearings is crazy in todays luxury watches.
I think it would be crazy to buy a Sub (even at msrp) knowing it has the old movement and the new movement has to come soon.
Omega is doing better movements and better build materials at a real world price point for a luxury sports watch.
