I am due to pick one up soon (probably) and very likely in the next few weeks prior to my birthday. I am of the view that it will complement my Explorer I nicely.
However, in about June of last year, I saw both the black and white dials on display side-by-side and tried them on whilst wrapped in stickers. I must say i liked the polar more, but what took me back was the size. I strongly suggest you try one on prior to purchase.
In terms of collectability - just buy what you like, you worst thing that can happen is you lose a few dollars in the event of resale.
