The dial is new and a bit larger. If they had used the same dial, it proportions would have looked more like a Daytona. They also have larger dials on the Milgauss so they could easily make one for the Day Date II.

But it is a Day-Date gents, which will eventually see that dial studded by diamonds. I think Rolex wanted a little more space for that.
