People are mixing INVESTMENT with VALUE RETENTION
You go ahead and buy a GV for, say, $10k
If you ever want to sell it, you'll be right around that, for sure. If it's 20 years and you sell it for 13 or 15, factoring in inflation, there are much better avenues to grow your $$$, as watches are not it.
