I do not know about new watches, but when I get a watch back from service I usually just wear it a couple of months for it to settle before I measure it's accuracy. I like to have my watches regulated to about +1s/day and there is no point doing that until it has settled.
If I would guess, I would say that it is less of a problem with a new watch and it has most likely already settled when being tested and regulated at the factory.
