I think its great. You get a watch that is uniquely yours. I plan on building a complete watch from the ground up soon. Obviously not machining parts myself but you get the idea.
It keeps my love for watches alive without having to throw down thousands of dollars or year long waiting lists. I can build a decent looking piece for under $500 and pass it on to friends once a new project comes around.
