I found this image in a post on the forum and if it is truly a side view of the BLRO bezel insert it might explain a bit. It appears that the base color for the insert is Red colored ceramic to which the blue is added last. I would think that dependent on the lighting the penetration of the blue could go into the red causing the red color to mix with the blue causing the apparent violet color frequently seen.
