Haha. I was just researching the same thing this morning. I was somewhat surprised to see my new 1977 1675 has an OPEN 26 when it clicked over this morning. I think people are going to tell you that Rolex made them both ways during some transitional periods, but I don't know for sure. I did a google search this morning and found a bunch of pics with both configurations for 26.
