I think they go buy a real one, break out their engineering tool kit, and figure out how to copy it as cheaply as possible.
Only a rank amateur would come to a forum seeking insight. Someone with the machine tools to make a watch will not waste time and money scanning the opinions of a bunch of mooks on a watch forum.
