I take it we are talking about Watches of Switzerland here in Sydney

The sales person I dealt with was quite knowledgeable and friendly, he even let me try on the Zeitwerk in white gold and the version with the striking time. But alas, as you mentioned no leeway in terms of any discount which was really disappointing. Once I tried them on I was hooked.

The funny thing was I was never in the market for a ALS, I was actually looking to pick up a Patek 5119 that day but the local ADs didn't have it in yellow gold.

Looks like I too have to take the internet route if I want to pick up a ALS.
