The five year warranty is a very good extra reason to buy new ! This was a smart move by AP in my book.
Regarding issues - as with anything one buys it may or may not have issues. As stated above, due to the nature of these things a manufacturing defect will usually present itself whilst still under warranty so go for it and pull the trigger !
