A lot of the Royal Oaks and Offshores have inner cases. This is not a new thing and actually goes back to the first Royal Oak. The black gasket you see under the bezel on new models is only decorative, but back in the day it was part of a case gasket that went through the entire case. Though there were a few generations of Royal Oaks that were completely solid.
