In February 1987 I bought a new TT DateJust 16013 from an AD in So California. The list price was $2,800. After a discount and adding two extra links, I paid $2,390. A few weeks ago, my AD sent it to the RSC for servicing. It's been serviced three times before (1992, 1998 and 2009). It's pretty much been an everyday watch since I bought it, and I've always been a little rough with it.
The first two times it was serviced there were no additional parts needed. In 2009, in addition to the servicing, the watch required a new bracelet and other parts totaling $2,586. A week ago, the RSC advised that in addition to servicing, the watch requires a new case and case back which totals $1,670.
So, not counting routine servicing, I have $6,646 invested in the watch (purchase price $2,390 + 2009 parts $2,586 + 2022 parts $1,670). When the watch gets back from the RSC in few more weeks it'll look like new and all for $6,646 over 35 years. Now that's a pretty good deal.
Especially since a new TT DJ retails at $12,000.
