Hi.
Just wanted to say Laphroaig is not peaty, it's smokey.
Peaty infers an earthy taste, whereas smokey infers just that.
Yes it's the burning peat that imparts the smokeyness, but overall Laphroaig and most whiskies from both Islay and Skye are described as smokey.
If however you can taste earth, then you can rightly say you find it peaty.
Less oxidation from a high temperature of the fire on peat leads to phenolic.
More oxidation from a lower temperature of the fire on peat leads to more bonfire smoke.
