Genuinely asking and not trying to be shady about this... would his homeowner's insurance cover this? Technically it wasn't his watch, but his friend's at the time of the accident. His negligence caused damage to someone else's property while he was at his home.
Also, is he really asking people to help fund this? It's a little weird to ask for help funding a luxury item.
