Many case-backs do cross reference, but Thomas does have a selection to fit several different models..

The early models used a tapered case-back sealing surface and the gasket was attached to the back... modern references have a groove in the case that the gasket is installed into, so if you go back too far, there is no interchange.

Here is the backside of a 1680.......... You can see that the gasket is attached to the back and so this particular clear back won't seal properly..



I would suspect that if there is a market for a vintage case-back, Thomas could produce one...
