I used to polish my center links about once a month on my bluesy. Tape up the brushed sections, polish for a few minutes, clean with soap and water and dry. Total effort took me no more than 10 minutes, tops. I imagine you guys that spend hours doing this are the ones that need to worry about softening the edges.
