To answer OP’s question. Depends on what you’re doing at the beach. If you’re strictly sunbathing, drinking, lazing, by all means wear the watch. If the extent of your activity is going for a dip, wear the watch. Anything beyond that I don’t even bother with a watch as it’s inconvenient (i.e. surfing, volleyball, skating). I personally don’t use a “beater” but you may want to keep your watch pristine, in which case by all means pick one up.
