I don't know if the warranty was the same over there, but my dad's came with a lifetime warranty. The only time he ever used the warranty was when he broke the bracelet while rock climbing. The Santos Automatic is Cartier's official rock climbing watch, isn't it? ;-)

They really have no way of telling who he is, so I doubt I'll have any trouble using the warranty. They might start to get suspicious when one of my nephew's kids brings it in for repair in 2114 or so. ;-)
