1. Hunter Valley - about 2.5 hours drive north. Beautiful valley, great food, coffee, accommodation and a great variety of wines. Due to proximity to Sydney it can be a bit crowded and bus loads of people trying to get drunk for free has lead to many places charging a ‘tasting fee’ at $10 per person. It gets waived for us and most people who are genuine tasters.

2. Mudgee - about 4 hours west of Sydney. A great drive across the great dividing range - spectacular change in landscape. Mudgee is a small country town with sophisticated food scene and brilliant wines. Particularly Robert Stein for their reds and their restaurant where you watch the sun go down with kangaroos bouncing around. Great Ports up there too.

3. Orange - 3 hours West. It’s a regional centre. Country NSW has reinvented itself with wine and food.

Search these 3 as a start, rent a car and enjoy.
