Let me preface by saying that the 5712 is a really cool watch with the moonphase, useful Power reserve complication, and the micro-rotor 240 PS movement. I don't think one or the other really matters, they are both Patek at its best..

But personally, I would choose the 5711. After seeing it in the flesh I really fell in love with it. So thin and beautiful. The only downside is that it is exorbitantly expensive for what it is: a steel cased center seconds watch with a haute horology movement. Here's one of a fellow collector who graciously let me try it out:



I believe the original design of the Nautilus was to transmit the feeling of looking out of a porthole into the ocean, and this is why the uninterrupted lines of the 5711/1A-010 wins out for me.
