Historically, a manual wind watch is wound at around the same time every day, usually when dressing in the morning.

This gives the watch's timekeeping some stability and consistent power reserve throughout the day. If it is your routine, you don't have to wonder if you wound it as often.

If it "sits", set and wind it when you put it on. It won't run if it isn't wound, and it will not wind itself.
