This is a big reason why I am drawn to other brands besides just Rolex... When I see someone who's entire collection is Rolex... i.e. 10 to 20 plus watches after a bit they look to similar to me.

I thought your post was thought provoking... And things like the very high initial cost and the high maintenance cost are important concerns to me...

I have read several times from others on the Rolex sub forum that they wear their Rolex to impress others.. i.e. "I'm successful"...
Another point that I believe was made that I wanted to reiterate is when it comes to luxury watches... A lot of people that want a luxury watch have a Rolex....me included. And because the price point is lower it makes them more accessible... and IMHO this makes them some what less desirable.
One last point is that I like the fact that Patek is under the radar for just about everyone except for those who are really into watches!
